The Oldest Football Club-Sheffield FC

Sheffield FC is recognized by FIFA as the oldest football club still playing in the world. It is located in Sheffield, a city in Northern England.

Sheffield FC initially played games according to the Sheffield Rules and did not officially adopt the new FA rules until 1878. Nathaniel Creswick and William Prest, two former Harrow School members, founded Sheffield FC on October 24, 1857, making it the first football club established without being affiliated with any school or university.

This is a football club that played its games for a long time at Bramall Lane, which is currently Sheffield United’s stadium. The founders of the club, Creswick and Prest, had the opportunity to draw up the general rules of football known as the This is a football club Rules during a time when the English Football Association had not yet been established. Even after the establishment of the Football Association, This football club continued to play football according to its own rules until 1878.

The football matches played between Sheffield FC and their neighboring team, Hallam FC since 1861 are considered the world’s oldest local derby. Both clubs are currently part of the Northern Counties East Football League in England. In 2004, This football club was awarded the FIFA Order of Merit, an award given to only one other club. To commemorate its 150th anniversary in 2007, This football club was included in the English Football Honours List.
